Video Highlights Zaanse Schans
This tour covers the magnificent area of Dutch polder landscape north of Amsterdam, marked by windmills, lakes, dikes and ditches.
After a stop to taste some traditionally made products at a cheese farm, we will visit the picturesque village of Edam for a stroll and the Zaanse Schans, for a visit to a windmill and a wooden shoe factory.
We continue to Volendam and make a boatride to Marken, fishermen's village along the former Zuiderzee. Marken used to be an island until it was connected to the mainland by a dike. Some people of both places still wear the traditional costumes.
You will travel along small scenic countryroads, where tourbusses are not allowed. The area is called 'Waterland' and is situated 10-15 feet below sealevel.
